Cargill Co-Sponsors the 2004 Life Time Fitness
Triathlon
MINNEAPOLIS - July 12, 2004 - Cargill is co-sponsoring
the 2004 Life Time Fitness Triathlon here on July 17. This is
the third consecutive year that Cargill has supported the growing
Minneapolis event, which boasts the largest purse in triathlon
history and benefits The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Twin Cities.
On July 17, competitors will swim in one of Minneapolis’ lakes, run their way through scenic Minneapolis neighborhoods and bike along the winding Mississippi River Parkway before crossing the finish line near Lake Nokomis. NBC Sports will once again provide same day television coverage beginning at 1 p.m. CDT. The race offers an Olympic course, a short-course plus several options to encourage participation from a wide range of athletes.
“Cargill is committed to promoting health and wellness among consumers by developing ingredient solutions that will lead to healthier consumer products. We are proud to support another Minneapolis-based company, Life Time Fitness, in their efforts to encourage people to adopt healthier lifestyles,” said Ted Ziemann, president of Cargill Health & Food Technologies.
Cargill supports the 2004 Life Time Fitness Triathlon in many ways. Participants can sample health-promoting commercial and prototype products and participate in consumer surveys. These activities allow Cargill to gain valuable consumer insight that will lead to the development of products that are relevant to today’s marketplace.
Participants can sample a frozen yogurt with Eridex™ erythritol for gut/low calorie health, beverages with CoroWise™ plant sterols for heart health and an OptaFlex™ chondroitin beverage for joint health.
The 2004 Life Time Fitness Triathlon features a $500,000 purse for professional participants, the largest in the history of the sport. More than 2,500 athletes, including a “who’s who” of the world’s elite professional triathletes will participate. Of the more than 40 professional triathletes who will participate at the Life Time Fitness event, it is expected that many will move on to represent their respective countries at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games this August in Athens, Greece. Last year’s Life Time Fitness Triathlon was honored as the ‘2003 Event of the Year’ by Competitor Magazine at the 12th Annual Endurance Sports Awards Banquet held on February 7, 2004, in San Diego.
